I am a "Everything in it's place and everything has a place" kind of person (in only a mildly obsessive way). Because of this attitude it is incredibly disturbing to me when I can't find something.
This usually prompts a "Who stole my_________?" response.
At which point whoever is in my vicinity gives me a blank stare and a smirk.
I'm not sure where this attitude comes from because, to be honest, I don't think anyone has ever actually stolen something from me. I grew up with two brothers, so, no sister "stealing" my clothes, makeup, hair ties or boyfriends. In college, for two years running, my roommates left school to move back home, so no-one "stealing" anything there.
I will often blame the people in my classroom of stealing things as well. Just today in fact.
"Who stole my coffee? Give it back!" I accused the room with a hairy eyeball.
All the students in my room looked up at me and pointed simultaneously at the counter by the SMARTBoard without a word. There was my huge, lavender Hydroflask mug.
"Oh, thanks."
Hahaha - I can just hear you with the "Who stole my coffee?" and the hairy eyeball flashing around. Funny thing that world full of thieves.
ReplyDeleteI am FOREVER misplacing things. Love that the moment gave you thoughts about yourself.
ReplyDeletePerfect ending!!! Thanks for the chuckle!!
ReplyDeleteYour little blurb of "Who the hell stole my coffee?" sucked me right in. I am a tea drinker, but I am always losing my tea everywhere and asking, "Where is my tea?!!" My husband says, "How should I know?", our son says, "Look in the microwave, Mom!", and my students, God love them, cannot hang on to their own water bottles that are right in front of them on their own desks, so they are no help to me! You are lucky to have observant students who can all point to your coffee! Thanks for the laugh today.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great slice and I love your title and your ending. By the way, I also have this attitude but I like to think I have the excuse of growing up with 4 siblings.
