Me Time

“You know you have to stay after school today, right?” I asked one of my students this morning.

 “Again?!” He complained. 

“Yes, unless… did you finish all your missing work from when you were out?” I inquired with a raised eyebrow. 

“You mean I have to make up ALL of that work?” He seemed very disturbed by this turn of events. 

“That’s pretty much how it works.” I informed him. “You could do it at home, too.” 

“ Okay, I’ll do it at home then.” This seemed like a fair compromise to him. 

“No. You have to stay today but you could do it at home after today if you want. You just have to get all the work finished. Why didn’t you do any of it over the weekend?” 

 “Over the weekend?” He looked at me blankly for a minute. “The weekend is ME time.”
